Kevin McCarthy is the manager of production department believe they should stressed the benefits of participative manage. Kevin made two experiments. The first one is decide priority of vacation schedules. The second one is increased the production standards. Kevin called a meeting of employees. When the employees discussed alone, he met with quality control manager. However, they found the quality of product decrease after new equipment coming in. they had to find out what the reasons are. When Kevin went back to the meeting room, he found employees did not make any change with the incentive of production standard, even they had already known it unfair. Moreover, they were arguing with who should have the priority vacation right.

Question 1:

The point of Hersey and Blanchard’s theory is that subordinates vary in readiness level. People low in task readiness, because of little ability or training, or insecurity, need a different leadership style than those who are high in readiness and have good ability, skills, confidence, and willingness to work. According to the situational theory, a leader can adopt one of four leadership styles, which are telling, selling, participating, and delegating, based on a combination of relationship (concern for people) and task (concern for production) behavior (Richard 2007).

Richard (2007) said that “the Vroom–Jago model is much applied, which means that it tells the leader precisely the correct amount of participation by subordinates to use in making a particular decision. There are three major components: leader participation styles, a set of diagnostic questions with which to analyze a decision situation, and a series of decision rules”.
