History and Evolution of Computer Programming

Subject: Client Name

Format: MLA

Summary: 5 pages

This paper is a study of the history of programming languages and how it has revolutionized with time.

Since the dawn of civilization, man has always been striving hard to work for a better and luxurious life. As time passed, the inventions evolved from one thing to another, from a wheel, he got inspiration to make automobiles and from dealing out documents and calculations, he invented the computer.

Before the computer programming language came into existence, things were worked on punch card techniques, and it can be called as the primary stage of the evolution of today’s processing computers. The main frame computers were suppose to be the path breaking technology, which was invented, but its major problem was that it was highly cumbersome and it was very large. The size of it can be compared to an equivalence of a medium sized house. In the year 1822 Charles Babbage invented the “difference engine”, which could do calculation on the basis of extended gears. This was the pioneer that made the mind set that devices can be made which are performances oriented. However the first computer actually didn’t use programming but worked on the concepts of primitive programming can be said to be ENIAC (Electronic Numerical Integrator and Computer). This computer kind was solely programmed by hand. It did not have the usage of software, and its programming was completely manual based on the series and combinations of switches and cables. The concept then was new but if analyzed since being very labor intensified, it did not have practicality. The fact that this electronic device was more of hard work than processing, it gave inspiration to the idea that, programs should be written and stored in the computer itself.

By the year 1945, john Von Neumann, who was an efficient employee...
