Lesson Plan Title: Kernel Paragraph – Sentence Fluency Trait: Sentence Fluency Materials: • Paper • Pencils • 1 worksheet for each pair of students Instructional Objective: The learner will improve the fluency of a paragraph by making some minor adjustments. Introduction: • Prior to this lesson, the students should have a basic understanding of the trait, Sentence Fluency. This could be reviewed by looking at several short pieces of writing for fluency as a class. Body: • Break the students into pairs, and give each pair a copy of one of the worksheets that appear on page two and three of this document. • Carefully read over the instructions with the class, and then have the students begin. Conclusion: • Instruct the students to do one of the following things: o They can write their own paragraph using at least three of the techniques that they practiced on the worksheet. o Revise a previous piece of writing in the same manner. Additional Ideas: • Let students score each others’ pieces of writing for sentence fluency. It is important that they include rubric backed reasons for the scores that they give. • Write an informative newspaper or magazine article about the lost luggage event from the worksheet. Encourage students to include direct quotations from passengers and the airport.
