Technology in this day and age is continuously evolving. Therefore which makes it extremely accessible for health care providers to use multiple modes of communication such as; via e-mail, web based-based forums, and electronic medical records. Although, this paper will be discussing particularly one specific mode of communication that health care providers as well as patients can benefit from.

Web-based forums are extremely beneficial to patients in ways of informing patients about certain concerns pertaining to their own health. Web-based forums can enable patients to gain knowledge through health-care providers that might help patients who might possibly have no great access to health-care in general. These web-based forums are basically open discussions to anyone who may or may not be patients to get information that they need from health-care providers and is more of general information based on solely internet use.

According to Anderson, J.D., LL.M. Candidate, the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPPA) Privacy Rule restricts a “covered entity” from disclosing Protected Health Information (“PHI”) (Andersen, J.D., LL.M. Candidate, 2008). Although, lately patients have been creating more specific health related information into search engines, and trying to produce a more clearly web-based forum for information.

According to the National Institute of health (NIH), web-based forums are extremely easier access for patients concerned with particular health care issues that might be able to understand on broader based information, rather than from a provider’s aspect in clinic.
