Dress for Success; An Informal Guide to Prom.

Growing up as a twin I quickly learned I had an ally on my side that well, was in it for keeps. Our entire life we spent bonding in a way that other siblings cannot. So, when my twin sister brought home her current boyfriend, Austin, I wasn’t overprotective. In fact I was friends with the guy before they even wound up dating. Since our mutual friendship had existed at the time, he usually comes to me for advice when dealing with my sister. Roughly around the time they started dating, I began dating my high-school sweetheart who demanded we attend a semi-formal dance. I was familiar and well versed in matters of dancing and formal dress, well more than your average high school Junior. From a mixture of shame, subtle pride, and defiance I stormed into the internet searching “how to tie a tie”. Needless to say, that did little to no good, in fact at time I felt like I was wrestling snakes attempting to force them into shape, eventually I learned several knots from this endeavor. Austin never really had that luck, his family always dressed him and made sure he was formed with the utmost finesse and would never learn how to dress himself properly. That really didn’t give a solid ground to stand on when factored into the fact he’d only been to one other dance in his entire life. So with my newly found ability to tie a tie, and ability to handle the rest on my own, I suppose it made sense for him to come to me much like he had with everything else.

Austin was cut into a similar predicament, his school was soon having a junior prom and he didn’t even know how to dance. Quickly his copious plot of wearing a clip-on tie was foiled by his mother deciding that it was just a plain ludicrous proposal.
