To whom this may concern,

I am writing this letter for permission to be released from my residence hall contract for the spring of 2013. Due to the fact that my single mother of four kids and two who is graduating from high school and looking forward to attending NIU as well, will no longer be able to afford my remaining expenses here at NIU. My mother is all I have and this is becoming a stressful drain to her. My mother has done all she can do to help me. She even went out her way to take money out of her 401k just so I can continue my education for the spring semester of 2013. In my mother and in my eyes as well, education is not an option it is a requirement. Education is my way out of poverty and my chance to be someone in life. Education is a stepping stone for me to be able to broaden my horizons and start building a foundation. I need education. I have tried everything from requesting additional funds and even thinking about moving to another hall, but I’ll still have a balance that my mom will not be able to pay and I won’t be able to return the following semester. However, if I am granted this opportunity, I know I will be able to perform well academically because I will not have to stress about expenses that are above my means. Therefore, I am sincerely asking that you release me from my residence hall contract.
