India Versus Iran

In my paper I will look at the counties of India and Iran and compare and contrast the two countries major aspects. I will look at how India’s economy is developing and moving forward. They are becoming increasingly advanced where as Iran’s economy remains at a stand still. Iran is underdeveloped and can not get themselves out of the economic hole they have put themselves in.

India was colonized by the British because they were lacking a strong centralized state so they were seen as vulnerable. The British established a good deal of infrastructure for India. They helped with communication and transportation technology to unify India. The Indian population became increasingly frustrated with the British and knew they had to make a change. After World War II the British were weakened by economic depression and by war and they were in no position to resist India’s independence. After India finally gained its independence from British imperialism they adopted a policy called import substitution industrialization. With this policy in place India was able to replace imports with domestic production. The policy was based on the premise that a India should attempt to reduce its foreign dependency through the production of in country industrialized products. The government also created a policy to help redistribute India’s wealth and limit the private sector. The govenment wanted to give the state the leading role in the economy.

By the late 1970s, India had gone through a green revolution and had become one of the largest agricultural producers in the world. In the green revolution India was able to technologically enhance crops and their farming methods and it lead to a dramatic increase in production.
