With all of the different data that is being transferred and stored all over the place. All of them are coming from different locations within the company. Combining all of the different software that it takes to organize all of this data is what makes up an enterprise system. They process all kinds of services that you would need in your typical organization. Some of these things account for sales, manufacturing and production, finance and marketing. Without enterprise systems, it would be almost impossible to sift through the terabytes and terabytes of data that are collected each year.

Another big function of enterprise systems, is that they analysis annual data. This helps them figure out what are their busy days of each year. Over time, they can pretty much pin point what day’s people are going to be there, so they make sure to stock their store a little better during that week compared to a week that does not have as much business. Most of the companies that have been around for a long time have a way where you can directly send information from the Point Of Sale systems. This means it can be automatic (like from a sale) more something manual also (Like voiding out a transaction).

How does effectively implementing and using enterprise systems contribute to achieving operational excellence?

Well, with Information Technology it works that same as anything else in life. The better you do your job in the beginning, the longer the system can go without maintenance. It also affects the productivity of an organization as a whole. You can lose millions of dollars a year, just by not automating some of these processes and having to do them manually.
