1. Yes, I believe the “personal touch” strategy is very feasible in today’s mass-merchandising climate. It has obviously profited the Englishes for the past 36 years, with a couple of years of challenges due to the construction on their street. This is the way Parkview has differentiated itself from its corporate competitors and how it continues to gain the business of its returning customers. I believe people still hold a high standard to small businesses that dedicate its services/products to not only satisfy its customers but also make it a priority to hold personal relationships with customers. Pharmaceuticals are a personal matter and customers appreciate the extra time spent by the Englishes to establish strong bonds. Sick and hurting people need an environment they can feel comfortable and safe and I believe the Englishes have established exactly that.

2. Hiring customers perhaps can grow Parkview’s customer base by word of mouth from employees to their family and friends. Customers who become employees grow an even stronger bond with the Englishes and this in return shows Parkview’s customers the Englishes’ dedication to a high standard of customer service. They seem to be very charitable and genuinely sincere people who opened a business not only to make income but also truly serve its customers. Hiring their customers can also give the Englishes an in depth, first-hand opinion on aspects of business they could make improvements. One major weakness is the lack of experience and skills required to work in a pharmacy. Unless the Englishes assign menial tasks to these employees, such has stocking inventory or working the register. But even these tasks involve customer service and they may not be able to answer some customer pharmaceutical questions. The article did not specify the training and/or interview process performed before hiring but these would definitely affect the efficiency of hiring customers.
