Rome

Rome has many geographic advantages. The following points prove why Rome is chosen as Italy’s capital.

First and foremost, Rome’s location makes it stand out compared with the other places in Italy. It is surrounded by mountains which form a fortress that prevents enemies from invasion. It is also close to the Tyrrhenian Sea and therefore very convenient for marine transportation and import/export businesses.

Rome also has various resources. For instance, it has rich forest resources, which is great for timber business. Its land is covered with abundant vegetation and pastures. A wide range of crops and livestocks provide different kinds of food on people’s dining tables.

Among Italy’s diversified physical landforms, Apennines is worth mentioning. It extends from north to south and divides Italy into two parts. Most of the rivers in Italy originate from the Apennines and flow down to the mainland, bringing silt and making the soil fertile. Rome is located on one of the major rivers - Tiber River. That is also a good reason why it is made the capital.

In addition, Rome is located in the west of Italy and is adjacent to many lakes such as Lake Bracciano and Lake Bolsena. Based on my research, I discovered that there are more lakes in the west than the east in Italy. Many people choose to live in the west because they like to live near the lakes and rivers for the easy access to water. Water is a great resource, not only for drinking, but also for farming.

Furthermore, Rome has a mediterranean climate, which has dry summers and wet winters. The average daily temperature is 15.2 Celsius degrees and the daily precipitation is 79.4 millimeters. This kind of weather is great for the growth of coniferous trees and fruit trees, including olives, citrus and grapes.

Based on the above analysis, Rome is the ideal place as Italy’s capital city.
