SELF DEVELOPMENT PROJECT

Part 1

A. I have put a lot of thought into what I want to do in my future. I set short-term goals a long time ago to be able to achieve my ultimate long-term goal of working as an associate athletics director in a university. I have been taking the steps to lead me in this direction and that is why I am here at Auburn University at Montgomery (AUM).

The first step I have taken to reach my long-term goal is to graduate with a Bachelors of Business Administration (BBA), majoring in Entertainment and Sport Promotion Management. While attaining my BBA, I also gained experience in athletics as a student-athlete playing on the softball team. Additionally, I gained experience as a supervisor in the Student Life Center. After attaining my BBA I took the next step, which was to score an adequate grade on my Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) to be accepted into a graduate program to pursue my Masters of Business Administration (MBA). Most assistant athletics director positions require a master’s degree and two years of experience in the industry. This led me to applying for Graduate Assistant positions. I felt the best way to pursue my goal would be to attend a two year MBA program where I would work as a graduate assistant in the athletics department to gain the necessary degree and experience.

It can be seen that I have had this career path in mind for quite some time, and have been taking the appropriate steps to one day accomplish this long-term goal. The reason I would like to be in this position is because I love sporting events. I would also like to be able to provide people with an amazing college experience weather they are student-athletes or spectators. Since I was a child I have loved entertainment, and in my opinion, there is no better form of entertainment than sporting events.
