Telecommunication Systems

The purpose of this paper is to describe the telecommunication system used at my workplace. This paper will also included an explanation explaining the differences between Rotary and Dual Tone Multi-frequency (DTMF), Wide Area Telecommunication Service (WATS) and leased lines, Private Branch eXchange (PBX) and Centrex, and the layers of the International Organization and Standardization-Open System Interconnection (ISO-OSI) will be given.

In accordance with our reading this week, the type of telecommunication system used in my organization is the key telephone system (KTS). In the KTS telephone system each telephone has several buttons representing multiple outgoing lines. Incoming calls can be answer by anyone; however, it is our company policy for the administrative person or the designated person appointed for the day to answer calls and take action accordingly. This system gives all 50 some members within my organization access to six incoming lines on their desk phone. A small button is located next to a line which identifies a specific number has a small light that blinks green for incoming calls and red when the lines is busy. The button must be press before dialing or answering a call. The key telephone system also provides intercom access, which can be use within the office so the agents can communicate using internal lines. To use the intercom feature, you push a three-digit number to speak directly with the agent they are calling. The administrative person uses the intercom to announce incoming calls. The other features on our telecommunication system include: call forwarding - which is used after business hours to send all incoming calls to our designated primary line to our third party answering service provider.
