Barclays has a clear sense of its business purpose: to help people achieve their ambitions – in the right way.

Citizenship is about contributing to growth, the way we do business and supporting our communities. Hear our colleagues explain what Citizenship means to Barclays in greater detail.

Barclays has a clear sense of its business purpose: to help people achieve their ambitions – in the right way. Our use of the term ‘Citizenship’ captures that purpose. Demonstrating our commitment to Citizenship is one of our four execution priorities.

2015 Citizenship Plan

On 23 May 2012, we launched our 2015 Citizenship Plan (PDF 679KB). Barclays 2015 Citizenship Plan sets out how we will play our part in overcoming the challenges facing the global economy and in restoring confidence in the financial services sector. It is organised around the three pillars that we use to articulate what we mean by Citizenship:

• Contributing to growth – we support economic growth and job creation by operating a strong, profitable business that is focused on helping individuals, businesses, institutions and governments pursue their goals.

• The way we do business – our clients’ interests are at the heart of what we do. We seek to reinforce our business integrity every day by striving to improve the service that we provide, making responsible decisions in how we manage the business, and actively managing the social and environmental impacts of what we do.

• Supporting our communities – we play a broader role in the communities in which we live and work beyond what we deliver through core business activities. We do this through community investment programmes and the direct efforts of our colleagues.
