Eczema

The skin disorder I chose was Eczema. This skin disorder can either be short or long term and it affects all areas of the skin. There are many types of eczema found on the body and they are used determined by the position in which it is located on the body. The cause of eczema is unknown but many scientists believe that it is genetic or environmental. The word eczema is Greek and means “to boil over”, this term is giving because of the rash and ashy skin eczema may produce.

Eczema is a noncontagious disease which means that it cannot spread to another human and it is to the host only. This condition may cause the skin too become very itchy and red, which may come from scratching the spot or by irritating the condition. In many cases people have reported to have severe bleeding from irritating the eczema to an extent. Scratching will worsen the condition and may induce a rash or even hives from the eczema spreading. Eczema usually does not spread unless the person irritates it by rubbing the original spot.

Treatment for eczema varies in range from soaps to lotions, but many of these only help calm down the disorder until the next flare up. Many common ways to treat eczema include warm showers, hydrocortisone, antihistamines, and ultra violet light therapy. Eczema at an early age in life has the chance to be overcome by the bodies hormones and the body may rid itself of the eczema almost entirely. This happens because of the changes the body may go through at this age which usually occurs around age 15 for boys and 13 for girls.
