Being able to find information so freely and easily is very helpful. It comes in handy for school when doing assignments and it’s amazing for personal projects. Assessing the value of the information is a very challenging at first, but after a while of using it you begin to understand that only certain sites are monitored for credibility and validity; most of the time these websites end in .org or .gov being checked on a regular basis. Some websites that a lot of people frequent are social networks, these networks are available for free and offer the ability to share information with friends and family, and allows them to do the same things. When using information from a social network always use discretion, not everything that is said will be accurate, but it won’t always be wrong either. Most of information from these networks are opinionated, and show underlying tones with a lot of present bias on most cases. But considering that most (not all) of the information pertains to friends and family, the only person that can truly judge the validity of them is you.

The digital divide is tough to explain, but I’ll give it an attempt. As technology progressed so did the means of accessing it. Internet opened a door to endless amounts of information and many other things to boot. The digital divide is the gap between people that can access these new things or the internet. A lot of areas around the world have still yet to get internet, or even know what the internet is for that matter. The divide is this group of people; the reality of it is that some people can’t afford to get these things due to financial standings. Other people merely choose not to be involved in the “digital era” choosing to continue to use the means that they consider traditional, as well as reliable. As the world continues to evolve and the people and things in it do also, the best route of action is to move with it, or as they say quite often “stay with the times”.
