Abstract

Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is an agency that was originally with the Department of Transportation, and now is under the office of Department of Homeland Security (DHS). It’s the third largest executive department in the federal government and is now directly responsible for the security of our nation’s airports. TSA is a government agency that works to protect the nation's transportation systems. It was formed immediately following the September 11th 2001 terrorist attacks. America was in shock following the attacks, and their lives were forever changed. The tragic event that day demonstrated the need for an expanded security system and President George W. Bush ordered affective immediately the rapid expansion of Transportation Security Administration (911 & TSA).

It was certain something had to be done; on November 19 2001 President Bush signed into law and passed by Congress the Aviation Transportation Security Act. This Act established some challenge but crucial steps toward securing our Nation’s transportation system. This act mandated Transportation Security Administration (TSA) to oversee and secure the safety of our public travel. TSA understood that securing our nation’s transportation system was going to be a huge and evolving job. TSA knew that it was going to take continuous monitoring and upgrading of new technology to ensure aviation security will continue to evolve and most of all deter terrorist. In year 2001 TSA began the building of one of the largest civilian undertakings in the history of the United States. (TSA what is TSA).
