Marvel Studios

There are two main comic brands that come to people’s minds: Marvel and DC. Marvel Entertainment, LLC. is the overall head branch of the brand name to date. It took some time before Marvel Entertainment, LLC. became the final name and company that it is today. The history of Marvel is a hard story to follow. It was founded by a man named Martin Goodman in the 1930s and has since grown (Rourke). From the beginning, there was Marvel Entertainment Group, Inc., which consisted of both Marvel Comics and Marvel Productions. In 1986, New World Pictures bought Marvel Entertainment Group from Cadence Industries. Three years later, Marvel Entertainment Group was purchased from New World Pictures by MacAndrews and Forbes Holdings. This purchase, however, did not consist of Marvel Productions but only Marvel Comics. After more miniscule selling of stock and absorption of companies, Marvel creates Marvel Studios. Marvel files bankruptcy in 1996 and the owners that have stake in the company tried to conserve their own financial wellbeing. In 1997, Marvel put together its Marvel Enterprise division, which was lead by the president and CEO at the time, Scott C. Marden. Something had to be done to bring Marvel out of the hole of bankruptcy; that is when Marvel Enterprises was officially formed from the joining of Toy Biz and Marvel Entertainment Group in 1998. Later, in 2005, Marvel Enterprises changes its name to Marvel Entertainment. The new name revealed their development towards the movie business. Marvel Entertainment is the present name of the Marvel franchise but there was one more final and significant purchase of the company. In December of 2009, The Walt Disney Company purchased Marvel Entertainment for $4.24 billion(Marvel Entertainment – Wikipedia). The main aspect of the company I want to focus on is Marvel Studios.
