Personal academic development is a process enhances and supports experience for a student while studying in university. It helps to build students’ skills day to day. If a student has a good personal academic development, he/she will not feel difficult to complete his/her course. Personal academic development helps a student know what skill he is either good at or bad at. From that point, the student would improve his skills to achieve his goals in studying. For example, a student has to do an assignment that contains some concepts or areas that he does not know. He would have to search books, articles related to the assignment on the Internet or even on the library catalogue of his university. That kind of thing takes a lot of time to complete. Basically, he will have to find out at least 20 references to put in his assignment after reading a giant number of sources. The more he is familiar with his study skills, the fast he finishes his assignment.

Finding references is not the only thing a student has to do. Academic environment requires a student to meet academic standards such as strictly following the format, academic writing skill, and so on. A student is only success in his studying once he can combine his skills and use them effectively. There are many ways to support for personal academic development in which improving research skill and referencing skill are two skills that a student needs to practice more than any other skill.

In my point of view, research skill is one of the most important things for a student to learn. There has a lot of information for students to do their assignments. However, not all of the sources give right information and normally a student has to search a great number of sources to find out what they need. I personally do practice this skill by doing my assignments over and over again. Every time I do my assignments, I have to read the topic first and then understand about the topic.
