Greek and Roman Empire

The Greek culture was a great influence on the Roman Empire. The Greeks have made a great impact on the Roman culture. The Greek culture influenced the beginning of the Roman civilization because they stole ideas from Greeks. Roman culture was a unique blend of Roman and Greek ideas. Ancient Greece and Rome had big impact on culture in the western world.

The Greeks used plays, and sports for entertainment to explain the world around. They based much of their plays off of their religion, comedies, and tragedies that showcased their struggle, sorrow, and humor about the human condition. They also used plays to teach life lessons. In sports, the Greeks created the Olympics.

The Greek artist used unrealistic features to depict people, as young, healthy, and having beautiful bodies to explain the world around. Many of their statues represented their religion, warrior, athletes, and the way they lived. Greek art, is very common in sculptures and paintings. The Trojan horse is an important and famous part of Greek history.

The Greek writers often wrote stories and poems about life. The poet Homer wrote epics to tell about heroic deeds such as the “Iliad” and the “Odyssey”. Aesop, a well-known poet wrote fables to teach lessons. In his best known story the tortoise and the hare the moral of the story was slow and steady wins the race. These famous poets’ works are still read today.

Ancient Romans were practical people who used pragmatic features in their art to explain the world around (Speivogeol, 2005). The Romans admired Greek art and often borrowed, copied, and stole from their ideas. The Romans even placed Greek-style statues in their public buildings. However, they were original when they carved their sculptures. The Romans sculptures were more realistic, and detailed characteristics including, warts, mole, wrinkles, and other unattractive features.
