Introduction

The Research Background

The purpose of this report is to critically analyses why females’ participation in workforce is crucial in Singapore Society. The topic was researched and broken down into main headings with a discussion which will be strengthened by references from credible authors which will give the reader a clear and precise overview of the importance of females’ participation in workforce.

The Sources and Methods of Data Collection

All research material used has been sourced from accredited authors. The Straits Times, textbooks and accredited website was utilized to source the material and eleven references were used. Publications were utilized from 1999 to give historical overview.

Overview of Labour Force Participation

In the past decade, male participation in labour force has always been higher than female despittatistics shows 49.5% to 54.3% in female participation from 1997 to 2007 whereas male participation in labour force is from 78.2% to 76.5%. However, the rate of females joining the workforce has increased gradually over the past decade.
