In this paper I will describe all of the hardware and software used to support personal, workgroup, and enterprise computing within a sales organization I recently worked for. Hardware, in terms of information systems, can be described as the physical devices and components of a computer. “Software, on the other hand, consists of the programs and applications that run on computers” according to “Hardware” (2012).

My personal work computer was a Dell Vostro 270 tower desktop computer, outfitted with twin Dell 19” widescreen flat panel monitors, a Dell USB entry keyboard, and a Dell USB optical mouse. Inside the tower was an Intel G645 Pentium processor with a 3M cache and boasted speeds of 2.9Ghz, A 250GB 3.5” SATA 7200rpm hard drive, 2GB of RAM, as well as a DVD+/-RW 16X SATA tray loading drive. We had about 16 of these computers at my branch connected to a wired Local Area Network which was tied to our office printer, which was a Canon Color Image Runner laser beam printer.

Our entire office ran on the Windows 7 Professional SP1 64bit Operating System to run all of our software from. The main software we utilized was the Microsoft Office Professional 2010 English edition, which included a whole suite of software we worked with on a daily basis. Within the collection, we relied heavily on Microsoft Excel to create spreadsheets and Microsoft Office to type up reports. We also had our email addresses hosted through the Microsoft Outlook email client, which we would use to communicate with everyone in our organization, as well as share our calendars to make sure we were all up to date with each other and on the same page. We also used Google Chrome as our main browser to conduct our online operations, with Internet Explorer as a backup browser in the event that Google Chrome had malfunctioned.
