Task

Student teams will debate each other on emerging issues in marketing, and be assessed on both individual performance (10%) and group performance (10%).

The areas for investigation and debate are included within Chapter 1 of the course text, Pages 24-28 and will be decided upon through negotiation with the course instructor. The topics correspond to four generic areas and can be used in conjunction with each other:

* The Digital Age

* Rapid Globalisation

* The Call for More Ethics and Social Responsibility use children

* The Growth of Not-for-profit Marketing

Examples of topics for debate include:

* The targeting of children by advertisements is unethical.

* Brands building relationships via social media avenues is a positive strategy for all stakeholders.

* Advertising changes consumers wants and demands to the extent that consumers spend money they don’t have.

* Not-for-profit marketing is more ethical than marketing for profit.

* International marketing the bleeding of advertising across country boarders is the key ingredient to the global consumption of most brands.

(Instructors should feel free to develop their own topics and share them with the teaching team.)
