Is cloud computing safe for small business or not?

If we put it in simple words “Cloud Computing” is “Internet Computing”. The internet as a whole is termed as the cloud therefore making cloud computing being the computation done through the internet. It makes more sense when one visualizes cloud computing as an autonomous and utility computing mechanism. (Pinal Dave, 2009) .The user does not have to agonize about installing the necessary hardware and software on his/her computer or network for conducting a job or operation and worry about managing and maintaining the resources. Instead it’s being provided as a service by another company and is accessed through internet. It is a concept that describes a blend of the following. (Roggio, 2009)

There are several cloud-based models that small business owners should consider when contemplating placing potentially sensitive data in the cloud. Private cloud – operated solely for an entity or organization. Community cloud – shared cloud for several entities. Public cloud – cloud infrastructure is available to the general public or general group. Hybrid cloud – combination of two or more of the above cloud types.

Ervices are being offered to specific consumers and small business firms which reduces their capital expenditure to a minimum. This allows lower barriers for market entrance as they only need the ability to access the internet. The key characteristics (eCommerceIndicator, 2010) of cloud computing are:

    • On Demand self-service -The customers are able to allocate and remover resources as they are needed.
