The Human Resource Management Process

The Human Resource Management Process is comprised of several components that are crucial to the success of an organization. Human resource managers are responsible for creating positions, finding qualified candidates to fill those positions, making determinations regarding compensation and benefits, and helping upper management mediate any workplace disputes, such as harassment claims or discrimination. There are a number of ways to describe the process of the main functions of human resource management. We are going to break the process into three main phases: the “Pre-Hiring Phase,” the “Orientation and Training Phase,” and the “Post-Hire Phase.” Lastly, we will discuss a few other major responsibilities of human resource management.

The first phase is the “Pre-Hiring Phase.” An important task of human resource managers is recruiting qualified candidates to fill open positions within their organization. Employment planning is a process by which managers ensure they have the right numbers and kinds of people in the right places at the right time. To do this, managers assess current human resources and future human resource needs, and then develop a plan to meet those needs. When a position is available, human resource management is responsible for writing a detailed job description. They then must find appropriate ways to advertise the opening for job-seekers to see.

Also during the “Pre-Hiring Phase,” managers may choose to participate in job fairs, professional recruiting events, or visiting college job placement offices. All of these sources are capable of producing potential future employees. One qualified candidates are identified, human resources managers will pre-screen, or conduct interviews with the applicants. They will conduct background checks, administer pre-employment tests and make hiring recommendations to hiring managers.
