A manual is a document that provides information that a reader can reference to solve a specific workplace problem. Manuals instruct readers to complete a task, learn a new skill, operate a piece of equipment, service or maintain a product, or even conduct themselves according to company policy. Manuals range in length and detail from short, quick-reference cards to hypertext e-manuals requiring massive amounts of storage space. Like all other workplace documents, manuals are written according to specific purposes and audience needs and expectations.It is important to make sure you have established criteria for a manual because it provides a parameter and rules for making the manual. It is also important to make sure a manual is written with clarity and easy to understand words so that anybody using the product can have a better experience. A manual also needs to be detailed enough so that if you are describing a piece or procedure it can be understood. A manual also needs to be informative as well as being formatted right. Some other things that need to be avoided are things like jargon or technical words that the average user might not know or might have to spend extra time to look up. Another thing that I think lacks in manuals would be more pictures of what you are trying to do.
