Final Paper Leadership I

Would I follow me?

Vince Lombardi once said, “Contrary to the opinion of many people, leaders are not born. Leaders are made, and they are made by effort and hard work.” I work hard and put time into all my tasks and teams. Over the years, through experience and teaching, I learned what is necessary to be an effective leader. In the past, I have proven to be a successful, efficient, and effective leader. I would follow me because I provide direction, create a shared sense of purpose, develop relationships, know my strengths, and develop personal leadership qualities.

I am an effective leader. I will continually communicate to you the mission, vision, strategy and goals, so you will always know your purpose and plan. As a team, you and I will create shared values and culture and from this we will grow. I will develop a relationship with you and other members of the team in order to empower you with responsibility. Once I know you, I will be able to teach you.

An example of when I was an effective leader is when I was captain of my soccer team. There were many different personalities on the team. I had to learn how to work with each person and combine people’s talents to benefit the team. Each individual adds an element to the team. For instance, there are certain players that are better at shooting and therefore, are positioned up front as forwards. Other players have better tackling skills and therefore, are positioned in the back as defenders. One position is not better than the other. When a person scores the winning goal, the whole team wins. In addition to understanding how each person adds to the team, I had to put in a lot of time.

After practice, I would help players work on their dribbling skills and give them pointers on how to be a better soccer player. Along, with helping them, they helped me. We kept each other accountable and listened to each...
