Ancient Greece: Analyse the daily life and activities of Ancient Greece.

In Sparta from the day a baby Girl or boy was born a Spartan solider would inspect the baby to see if was healthy or not if it wasn’t healthy it would either be thrown off a cliff and die or, left out in the open to die of starvation. When the baby boy would turn seven it would be taken from its parents and sent to military school were they would learn how to fight, take pain and have no emotion and also they learned very little how to read and write. When they were eighteen they were allowed to leave and join the Spartan military and fight for their country. Sparta had three classes in their community, there was the Spartiates the highest class of them all, then the Perioeci which were the second class and then there was the Helots which were basically known as slaves.

Some activities the Spartans would do are attending festivals like Gymnopedia which was the most common festival Spartans would attend, there was the Krypteia which was and organised ceremony were some Spartans would murder/kill the Helots.

The Athenians school rule was similar to the Spartans despite the fact that they didn’t learn about fighting, they learnt about maths, poetry, drama, public speaking and also how to read and write. When the boys were eighteen they would attend two years of military school and then they would go off and get married and live their lives. While the boys were at school the girls would be at home learning from their mum about how to be a good house wife and how to handle their children. When the women were not married they were controlled by their father and who would pick their husband who was in their thirty’s to a women who was still in their teens.

The Athenians didn’t really do many activities they only did plays and did art unless the men were told to go to war. Their military side wasn’t as strong as the Spartans.
