Information in the Changing World

College, information technology has gravel grown and changed of my current position. Such as, the business world; would used typed writers to create letters and reports, carbon papers to make copies, and had to mail correspondence to outside companies/clients.

Where information technology has greatly improved and grown in my current position as where upon my entering this position information technology was nonexistence. Examples, if our staff of over 200 employees needed to request for vacation time the procedure was anoqated, time comsuming, and costly. Our Supervisor would have to come to the main office to get the paid time off (PTO) request form, bring it back to their office, have the employee fill out the form, in turn the Supervisor needed to bring it back to the main office for approval, once approved the staff member would enter the information into the system, then hand it at another employee to manual login, then back into the employee’s file. With a staff of over 200 employees being located throughout the campus in order for them to get any information, mailings, etc. the main office would receive over 200 copies of every flyer, notification, or announcements. Our Supervisor would receive their work via paper.

Whew! You can see where so kind of use of information technology can help these procedures, get information to our staff, cost saving and get work orders to our supervisor faster and paperless.

With these areas that needed improvement, we had to seek out the latest information technology. Therefore, we had sought out Sharepoint Microsoft Office SharePoint Server (MOSS), also called SharePoint for short, is new server software that is part of the 2007 Microsoft Office system.
