JOE

Joe, a rockssical theatre play, is about the study of the life of our national hero, Dr. Jose Protacio Rizal. This is one of the productions created by the Philippine Stagers Foundation headed by their writer and director Vincent M. Tanada. This production is indeed excellent and cool. It made me more interested in the life of Dr. Rizal.

This play is musical because it is accompanied with music and the artists are acting, singing and dancing all at the same time. It is very organized knowing that they are having a hard time in technical. Joe almost lasted for more or less 2 hours. And I can say, the amount we paid for this play is totally optimal. The artists really made it special namely Patrick Libao which acted as Joe/ Jose Rizal and Vince Tanada as Joecas. Other casts are Jordan Ladra as Hunter, Cindy Liper as Joanne, Kiierwin Larena as Bimbo, Adelle Ibarrientos as Julia, Gabby Bautista as Turing, Chin Ortega as Ambo and Monique Azerreda as Josephine Bracken. They showed professionalism when it comes to acting and there was no malice seen while they’re onstage. They conveyed one of the important events happened to Dr. Rizal like the questionable signing by Rizal of a retraction statement in order to gain the Church's approval to marry Josephine Bracken. Although the play is quite complicated to understand when you’re not really in focus because it seems to parallel the old conflict with the modern conflict. This play perfectly connected how the life of Dr. Rizal and the lives of the main characters are related to each other. And for the costumes and props, they essentially put a lot of effort in order for the viewers like us to enjoy what we are watching. As well as the sceneries or the backdrop, they made it comfortable to the viewer’s eyes for us to be comfortable. But not the sounds or the music because it seemed so scruffy.

To sum up, this play is overall successful. The characters are well portrayed. Joe made me realized how we could also relate...
