Consulate Health Care (CHC) is a 220 bed Long Term care/ skilled facility that is part of a larger formal organization. Mission statement of the organization is “Providing Service with our Heart and Hands” ( ). CHC has a unique demographic of residents, ranging from the geriatric population to the younger age population with health issues.

DESIGN

CHC by definition is a formal and in formal organization. An formal organization is defined as “The formal structure consists of the official governance configuration in which workers at all levels interact. Formal structures are commonly outlined in the form of an organizational chart” (Webster) CHC has defined organizational structure starting with the director and upper management. Each role of upper management is clearly defined, and upper management has people above them whom they have to report to.

Informal organization is "defined by the patterns, behaviors, and interactions that stem from personal rather than official relationships." The informal organizational structure focuses on people and how they work together to get things done rather than focusing on the roles that exists within an org chart”(Webster). CHC has support staff that work together to meet one goal of providing the best resident care possible, but not always follow the formal communication pattern.

FUNCTION

Current census of the facility is 207, corporate has the facility budgeted at 210 out of 220 residents. CHC has had some difficulty meeting budget over the past three months due to competition and the hospitals having a low census. Admission coordinators do go to the hospitals daily to recruit residents. To provide quality care for the residents the facility employees 400staff, with over half the staff consisting of the nursing department.
