1. What is your opinion of the effectiveness of the telecommuting program at the travel agency so far?

With the trial of the telecommuting program, there was no complaint from either the employees or the customers. The feedback from the employees resulted in the telecommuting program as a successful trial and it seems that Sue and Russ have learned that the trial is a success saving them a great deal of money avoiding the cost of expanding their building, moving their business to a bigger venue and saving from facility expense. Additionally, some employees were given the opportunity to be at home spending more time with their family members or avoiding long commute times significantly impacting their quality of life. Both the employees and owners reaped in great benefits from the telecommuting program and improved employee productivity.

2. What evidence should Sue and Russ be seeking to know if the telecommuting program is beneficial to the travel agency?

Sue and Russ should consider the initial benefits because during the telecommuting program, the owners saved money from expanding the building and facility expense, enhancing the quality of life of the employees and increasing productivity for the employees. Most of the employees who were part of the telecommuting program seem to feel less stress. With the positive results from the telecommuting program, Sue and Russ should compare the current productivity versus the productivity before they started the program. They should also keep in mind that it is more cost effective to keep the telecommuting program saving money. Since there is also distraction at home, they should carefully select the best-fit employee for the job without discrimination but to ensure that the employees who will be working at home will be able to accomplish the job without any delays and issues.
