It all began in the year 2007, this was when I went cold turkey on using the “creamy crack” called perm. Despite what many people said to me in my initial stage I didn’t let it get to me and never went back on my decision. When I made this choice to go back to my natural root I went through many emotions. I went from being happy that I’m free of the perms & hot combs, to being sad & frustrated because I was lost and didn’t know what to do with this new creature on the top of my head. But I quickly squashed these feelings when I found my first protective hair style, a curly afro puff. This new do helped me out a lot through my initial transitioning stage. But it didn’t last very long, not only did the school I attended didnt allow females to wear weaves but I got caught wearing my puff after a few months. So now I had to resort to plan B which was a similar style minus the puff. Now this look lasted a while, just until my perms ends started to fall off. The good thing about it was that this was the ending of the school year. So in preparation for the following school year I ended up doing my first “B.C.” big chop, where I clipped of all my remaining perm ends.  After doing this I was left with about 3 inches of curly growth.Having short hair was foreign to me so I panicked. I needed to find a way to tame this unusual creature immediately. During this stage of my journey was the hardest since I was totally green at taking care of this natural fro. In desperation of finding ways to tame this beast I resorted to YouTube, where I stumbled across natural hair videos from ladies who have a similar hair texture. By watching their natural hair videos I learned a lot about the versatility of my hair which was a plus for me because it gave me a bit more confidence. I gained a lot of knowledge about the variety of natural hair styles that work best with my texture which is between a 4a/4b.
