When advertisers are trying to sell their products, especially new ones, they depend on the art of persuasion to convince the general population to buy what they are selling. In the case of the Sensational Salsa Company, they uhse money as an incentive to get parents to lie on Facebook. These parents have the choice of taking either the central route of persuasion or the peripheral route of persuasion when posting their “fake” entries online.

Adults have the option of taking one of two routes when posting their fake opinions of the salsa online. They can either take the central route, a route based more on facts (real or fake), or they can take the peripheral route, a route based on visual appeal. An adult using the central route, which would tend to be easier to do so on Facebook, would elaborate immensely on the positives of the product. They would go into complete detail about the salsa whether it’s actual facts about the ingredients of the salsa or their feelings (false) about it. They are trying to get others to read their posts and carefully contemplate the product. They are testing the arguments of others with the central route by using information. Additionally, the adult posting online has to be fully committed to his/her false opinion and have the ability and motivation to convince others viewing his/her post. The central route requires a lot from the parents.

On the other hand, the peripheral view is a lot less tedious in that it does not go into full elaboration. In this case, the parent on Facebook would not need to pay attention to the arguments in favor of the salsa. Instead, they would post visuals that would draw someone scoping out their page to stop and be enticed...
