Abstract

Recent Government investigations have highlighted security concerns regarding the Transportation Security Agency (TSA) in the United States. Information Technology has become one of the primary tools in conducting screening of passengers for commercial airline travel. This literature examination illuminates their shortcomings, questions their ethical practices, and examines approaches to improve security: improved training and better management. The paper compares effectiveness of security measures and their ethical practices involving the use of metal detectors, body scanners, body searches, etc… In recent years there have been numerous lawsuits against the Transportation Security Agency, a few of these will be discussed throughout the paper ranging from children being wrongly placed on the terror watch list and children being strip searched to a cancer survivor being left covered in urine. The Transportation Security Agency has many flawed practices that lead to passengers being treated inhumanely and leave passengers to question their safety when traveling via commercial airlines.
