Overview

Angelo Camero as a youngster spent hours at the local pizza store, watching the owner bake pizzas. After graduation and majoring in marketing, he came back to Bronx and opened his first Angelo’s Pizza store. He emphasized on its clean, bright interior, its crisp green, red, and white sign and his all-natural, high quality fresh ingredients. Within the time span of five years the pizza store was a success. And he had opened three other stores and was considering franchising his concept.

He was able to clearly differentiate between an entrepreneur and a manager.

However, upon expansion things began to change and things started to become challenging. He hired managers for the two new stores. The managers were those who used to work for him at the first store. The problems were human resource management related issues and he knew that there was no way he could expand the number of stores or contemplate franchising his ideas. The HR management should be empowerment and manpower planning however, Angelo had no training program in place for teaching his store managers about how to run their stores. He assumed that since these managers had already worked with him, they would have learned how to do the things on the job.

Core Problem

As Angelo Pizza is in a service oriented business; its success and failure solely depends on the expertise and training capabilities of its employees. Human resource is the most significant and valuable asset of a service oriented business and if the employees of the business lack the required know how the future growth prospects of that firm are very bleak. So the gravest problem faced by Angelo Pizza is that it lacked had qualified HR persons which further gave way to other problems eventually disturbing the smooth operations of the business.
