After doing much reading on topics relating to leadership and gender, I have come to the realization that there are still many hurdles faced by women as they strive for management or leadership positions in the organization. In this leadership paper, I wish to explore and identify the correlation between gender and leadership. I will be looking into some of the more traditional leadership theories as well as some of the more modern days theories and attempt to identify why there is still a considerable absence of female in top management leadership position.

In a logical sense of theories, having the same education background and experience should provide equal opportunity for both genders to be selected to fill in the top management roles. However, men would usually prevail against women. In addition, the idea of women in top leadership roles is still difficult for many to grasp. My research paper would venture around finding the reasons behind such stereotypical beliefs about leadership styles. There will be a few questions that needed to be answered in this research paper. First of all, what are the determinants for males and females differences in leadership style? These determinants would include identifying the different characteristics and behaviors between male and female leadership styles.

Next question would be, is leadership style a gendered concept? Based on the findings obtained from the first question, I would try to match the characteristics and behaviors with the existing leadership styles especially in regards to transformational and transactional leadership style. There are few articles that claim that transformational leadership is more of a feminine approach where else transactional leadership is more towards muscular approach. My findings would try to see how far does this statement proved to be true.
