1. Introduction

This report is a short description of my 12 week attachment carried out as compulsory component of Diploma in Information Technology. The attachment was carried out within the organization East Africa Public Health Laboratory Networking Project (EAPHLNP) 2012.

Since my interest is mainly on regional I.T networking, this was a good place to start with. What the project does mostly is to provide an interactive Geo map of the World Bank - supported East Africa Public Health Laboratories Networking Project (EAPHLNP) sites in Tanzania, Uganda, Kenya & Rwanda.

It’s a unique project that enables us to develop an interactive Health Map enabled Geo map and Software Solution showing disease surveillance data profiles and comparative analysis for each of the 28 public health laboratory sites and their control districts covered under the World Bank Supported East Africa Public Health Laboratory Networking Project (EAPHLNP).

At the beginning of the internship I formulated several learning goals, which I wanted to achieve:

* To understand the functioning and working conditions of a government organization;

* To see what is like to work in a professional environment;

* To see if this kind of work is a possibility for my future career;

* To use my gained skills and knowledge;

* To see what skills and knowledge I still need to work in a professional environment;

* To learn to organize a research project. i.e planning, preparation, permissions etc.

* To learn about research methodologies (field methods/methods to analyze data)

* To get fieldwork experience/collect data in an environment unknown for me;

* To get experience in working in another country/with persons from another culture;

* To enhance my communication skills;

* To build a social and professional network.
