Abstract

As the new Chief Operating Officer of the company, it is imperative that some tough decisions need to be made and a plan must be formulated to address some recent situations where employees have made poor choices. First the Kentucky Employee-At-Will doctrine will be reviewed and the corresponding exceptions will also be included. 8 employee problems will be analyzed. A recommendation to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for immediate and future action will be included with each situational analysis and a more concise company recommendation will be included in the last section of this piece. The purpose of this analysis and the recommendations provided is to promote a stable & consistent environment within the company; ensure a complete understanding of the expectations, policies and procedures for both the company and the employees; and, ensure that the company has a successful and profitable future and Initial Public Offering (IPO).

Employment-At-Will Doctrine

I have recently taken over this company, located in Kentucky, as the Chief Operating Officer (COO). In the wake of the company going public soon with an Initial Public Offering, I have been given the task of evaluating 8 recent personnel problems and a course of action needs to be decided. It is necessary for me to evaluate these situations and assess our rights within the Employment-At-Will doctrine and/or the exceptions that are in effect in Kentucky. It is my objective to analyze each situation and make recommendations to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) on how to proceed. My recommended plan of action must include activities that protect the company & employees in the future and it must outline the best course of action infiltrate our newly established policies, procedures and expectations into our workforce fast and furiously.
