CIS 502 Theories of Security Management

The Department of Homeland Security has a critical mission to secure the United States of America from the many threats that it faces. This requires the dedication of more than 240,000 employees in jobs that range from aviation and border security to emergency response, from cybersecurity analyst to chemical facility inspector. The duties of the Homeland Security Agency are wide-ranging, but their goal is quite clear, to keep America safe.

Each of the individual departments within The Department of Homeland Security is separate but plays an intricate part that makes up the entire Department of Homeland Security. With each of these departments being separate, each agency has their own goals and mission statements. The Department of Homeland Security is comprised of at least a dozen individual subcomponents and agencies.

The United States Computer Emergency Readiness Team or US-CERT is a partnership between the Department of Homeland Security and the public and private sectors. Established in 2003 to protect the nation's Internet infrastructure, US-CERT coordinates defenses against and responses to cyber-attacks across the United States.

The Domestic Nuclear Detection Office or DNDO is a jointly staffed office established to improve the United States’ capability to detect and report unauthorized attempts to import, possess, store, develop, or transport nuclear or radiological material for use against the Nation, and to further enhance this capability over time.

FEMA’s Division manages the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) and implements a variety of programs authorized by Congress to reduce losses that may result from natural disasters.
