Discuss how C&C’s first organizational structure contributed to the store manager’s dissatisfaction.

With the competition of super center emerging against C & C Grocery Inc. where it is no longer able to compete as a low-cost leader, it is very important to use a differentiation strategy to improve their organization. However, the current organizational structure that C & C Grocery is currently uses has several fatal flaws that severally handicap the store managers which result in a hostile and uncoordinated work environment.

First, the structure calls for equal authority among the store manager and the manger of different departments. In giving the meat department manager, grocery department manager, and produce department manager the same authority as the store manager it resulted in a conflict of interest. When the store manager needed to run a promotion on pop products and necessity arose for additional room to place the items, other departments refused to allow it on their operating location. The reasoning behind this decision was that the sales did not benefit their department and thus it was an unneeded burden on them. Without this authority the store manager cannot make a decision that will be beneficial for the whole store but have some negative recoil concerning certain departments.
