With its population of 85 million, Egypt is an attractive market for many firms thanks to its unique mix of demographics and commercial links to the broader world, strategic location and a demonstrated ability to innovate and compete in global markets. The U.S. Embassy in Cairo looks forward to supporting U.S. firms as they seek business, trade and investment opportunities in Egypt’s growing economy. In order for a business to be successful in a specific country, the culture of that country and the people of the country must be understood. In some regions of the world, culture is one of the most important influences that determine the success or failure of a business abroad. Egypt has a rich history, full of struggle, positive events, and maintains a strong belief in the abilities of its people. The country of Egypt is located in the eastern part of North Africa, and is sometimes referred to as the Arab Republic of Egypt. Egypt is the most populated Middle Eastern country, with a land mass which is about the size of Texas, Oklahoma, and Arkansas combined (Yahia, H. Z., 2000). The country is made up of a host of people, and is one of the earliest civilizations in the world. This paper will discuss how to successfully do business in Egypt and will explore the following topics: Country Background, Egypt business structures, management & meeting Styles, communications styles; and general business practices.

Country Background

The official language is in Egypt is Arabic; however, English and French is widely understood by educated classes. Sunni (Orthodox) Islam is the dominant religion, practiced by 94% of the population.
