Re: Recent Civil Rights Decisions

There have been several situations that have been brought to my attention and that have required some changes be made to our civil processes. All groups are protected from discrimination but there are no limitations to minors or the elderly of certain careers. I will be making the decision to enforce curfew for those under the age of 18. This is to protect not only our community but also the minors of it. Having our minor children at home makes for better environments for them and also keeping our streets less crowded and quieter. Another situation which I am not able to change is the retirement age for firemen and women. The required retirement age will have to remain the same. This right was placed several years before me and I am unable to change this. I will also be bringing education to our staff about the different diseases which affect us such as HIV. We need better education of things going on around us rather than running from them we need to stay educated and remember that we cannot discriminate against others due to their diseases. I will also be implementing education on sexual harassment. We have recently had a situation which both parties felt they were wronged. There seemed to be lack of education from one party involved. It is a topic that affects all of us every day. Not only does it have to be an act of touching another person but it can also be done in other ways such as language, topics being discussed, or even the way you look at another person. Because of the several areas it is important to keep the safe well educated and this will become a major priority for our staff.
