Developing the Purpose

What area? And what should it be? What kind of org. do we wish to be? Relative importance of shareholders & stakeholders? Grow? Relationship with environment & society in general?

Every org. needs to develop its purpose & a common understanding of the main elements. The purpose will be unique to each org. Org. are multidimensional & unlikely to have a single purpose.

Polygon of purpose

Leadership: the style & substance of the way the org. is led. Leaders what their mission is and why the org. exists. They has the ability to delegate, confidence, sense of humor, good communication skills, positive attitude & creativity. Talented people with the best training who thrive in a diverse meritocracy that demand excellence initiative & courage.

Growth: the desire for sustained growth. This needs to be considered as an objective for org. Stakeholder: definition & delivery of value added to the various interested parties, especially those with the most power. The long-term relationship with the stakeholders are a vital part of the approach. These relationships take different forms & range from fully aligned partnerships to more challenging engagements. Citigroup integrate the stakeholders input into their decision-making processes & the development of policies, strategies & programs.

Identifying a vision for the future

Is the picture of the future of the org. Vision of Citigroup: Believe that excellence in consulting requires client asvocacy and stewardship, a passion for leading edge investment solutions & the delivery of experienced consulting services in a way that helps Citigroup exceed their clients expectations every day.

Coping with stakeholder power

Are the individuals & groups who have an interest in the org. and therefore may wish to influence aspects of its mission, objectives & strategies. Stakeholders extends beyond those who own & work in the org....
