TOPIC: USEFULNESS OF COMPUTER APPLICATION IN MANUFACTURING COMPANIES.
Computer is an electronic device for storing and processing information. Computer has been of immerse help to so many sectors of the economy and which include the manufacturing companies. Classically, the ingredients for manufacturing have been labor and raw materials. But you could put all the raw material you need into a room with all the labor you need and still nothing would be produced without providing instructions as to how the labor resource should be applied to the raw material. That information, along with its delivery mechanisms, is as much an essential input to the manufacturing process as are the materials and labor. And yet this has never been recognized in "classical" manufacturing theory. Therefore, the invention of computer brought changes to the manufacturing companies and this has been in the following ways:
Firstly, Computer based control systems can be combined with manufacturing technology, such as robots, machine tools, automated guided vehicles, to improve manufacturing operations. In this role, the computer can assist integrating these technologies into a lean and efficient factory capable of competing in world markets. Organizations such as Allen-Bradley, black and Decker, and Boeing have used information technology and factory automation to improve manufacturing operations. This combination of information technology and factory automation is often called computer- integrated manufacturing.
Secondly, Computer- integrated manufacturing (CIM) blends development in manufacturing with information technology to achieve competitive advantage. When properly organized, CIM offers the opportunity to automate design, manufacturing and production planning and control.
Also, Engineering...
