Digestive System Question

On day 1, Wednesday, September 18, I consumed 6 slices of chicken pizza. The majority of my chicken was grilled. The grilled chicken from the meal provides my body with protein, and the ranch dressing I used to dip my pizza provides the fat. I first took a bite of the pizza, containing all of the different ingredients, and crushed all of the macronutrients with my teeth. I proceeded to chew which stimulates the saliva from the salivary glands. The saliva contains something called salivary amylase. This is a process that breaks down the carbohydrates from the meal into simple sugars, beginning the digestion process of the carbohydrates and other nutrients. Lingual lipase breaks down short chain fatty acids and helps with digesting fats such as the ranch dressing I consumed. The next process involves my tongue. My tongue helps bring back the small pieces of the crushed up of food back to the pharynx. W the pharynx, the bolus then moves down into the throat and into the esophagus. This process moves the food to the stomach through muscular contractions of the body. While in the esophagus, the muscles move the bolus down through the esophagus and into the stomach. Next, the bolus lands in the stomach and starts to combine. The acids job here is to break down the particles. This is now called the chyme. Enzymes that line the intestinal tract break down disaccharides into monosaccharaides. Mono, meaning one is simply carbohydrates in their smallest form.

Next, the food is dropped into the pyloric sphincter and continues through to the small intestine. The food makes it to the liver where it gives off a green smelly liquid, bile. Its job is to break down fats and is located in the ball bladder. The bloods job is now to bring all the essentials to the liver. As a result the body is provided energy. Not all carbohydrates are stored in the small intestines therefore they are transferred into the large intestines. Finally, after all the food in...
