HEATHER EVANS CASE

1. State what you believe to be Heather’s major problem and explain why.

Heather’s major problem is twofold - financing or lack there of and she has NO designs to show investors for the clothing company she is selling.

* She is still in school; which means she has no investors on site

* She is utilizing her own bank account (what also concerns me is that they never mention just how much money she has in this account just that she keeps spending from it) and because of all of this her business is a rapidly sinking ship before it even leaves the dry dock. Heather needs a strict business plan, a business manager, and to not put the wagon before the horse by spending monies on buildings before she even has investors in her product or even a product.

* AGAIN – where are the clothing designs to show the investors? If I were an investor I would want to see the designs I would be contributing my back account to. In Paris, most of the orders are placed directly off the runway because the buyers are there to visually see the collections.

2. State your evaluation of Heather’s priorities.

Heather’s priorities are stretched too thin.

* She is in school while trying to set up this company.

* Heather needs to delegate her work load for the company – she cannot possibly do everything she plans to do once it is up and running – no one is Super Woman – with running every aspect – doing everything will lead to a ball being dropped – especially since she specifically states that the design group is the core of the company and she will spend 40% of her time on the line.

* Heather even contradicts herself by stating that even though she will be spending 20% of her time on financial and production control – that she is aware that “these functions are critical to, but often neglected in, apparel manufacturing companies”.
