Georgia is the state that I will be counseling in so all relevant information about LPC (Licensed Professional Counselor) is reproduced from the laws and statutes that have been determined by the power of the state.

* The state of Georgia has determined before a person can be licensed to practice as a counselor he or she must have attended and passed an accredited University with at least a Master’s degree in their respective field (Counselor License, 2013, para 5).

* Within the scope of this accredited program recognized by the state of Georgia, the degree must meet the required curriculum. Here are some of the required courses that have to be a part of the curriculum: Understanding and being able to work with people from different cultures, psychotherapy and the tools it gives, group counseling, career counseling, applied statistics and how to conduct research, client assessment (Counselor License, 2013, para 6).

*According to Georgia laws that a part of the degree that was attained by the person wanting a license to practice, must have had at least 300 hours of supervised counseling within their respective program and must be passed said internship prior to applying for a license (Counselor License, 2013, para 7).

* In Georgia you apply as a LAPC (licensed associate professional counselor), which means that two conditions must be meet before attaining this license (Counselor License, 2013, para 8). First the applicant must also have a place of employment with a document stating that they will be under supervision from a supervisor that has already attained his or her licenses and in good standing with the state and attained the necessary hours of internship (Counselor License, 2013, para 8).
