Part 1

A recent meal I ate was a 16oz. acai primo bowl with whey protein boost. My meal consists of 690 calories, 23.5g of fat, 118g of carbohydrates, and 20g of protein (FatSecret & Jamba Juice, 2014). Other nutritional components that I got from my meal were vitamin A 10%, vitamin C 590%, Calcium 8%, Iron 20%, fiber 11g, potassium 24mg, probiotics, and antioxidants (FatSecret, 2014).

This meal although delicious, consist of more than half my daily calorie intake. The sugar and carbohydrate content is extremely high (81g of sugar). Each person’s sugar level intake will vary. Too much sugar may predispose people, particularly women. It may cause yeast infections, aggravate arthritis and asthma, and promote mood swings. It could also increase risk of high blood pressure and type 2 diabetes (Weil, 2014).

I suppose I could have made my meal healthier by eating eliminating the honey, and eating only half oppose to ¾ of the bowl. I usually eat a meal of this type of nutritional facts only after a heavy cardio workout to replace energy in my body. I make sure to burn off a certain amount of calories in my workout in order not to go over my 1200 calorie a day diet, while still enjoying this sweet treat I call a meal.

Part 2

I had about 30oz of water throughout the duration of my meal, with 2 lemon quarters squeezed in. Water is essential for human health and survival. Food needs to be digested in order to reduce it into small molecules that an intestinal tract can absorb and release into the blood. Water helps breakdown these molecules supporting the movement of food in the digestive tract, and aids in the breakdown (LiveStrong, 2014).

There is a high volume of water in the meal that I ate. Most of what was in my meal was blended fruits, and fruits contain a lot of carbohydrates and water.
