“Ideas are open knowledge that everyone should have access to. You must share information freely, and never hide information from anyone. When you give away all your ideas you create the need to replenish them, which opens the door to creativity and innovation. Furthermore, sharing your ideas with others give you access to more ideas.” -Harrison Barnes

Ted Video of Alex Tabarrok's, “How Ideas Trump Crisis” was interesting. I learned some interesting facts. The three that stood out for me were

-Its energy not oil that counts. Higher oil prices mean a greater incentive to invest in energy R&D. That the world is much better equipped to overcome an increase in the price of oil today than in the past.

-Action movies have larger budgets than comedies. Action movies can translate easily in other cultures the market for those movies are larger and budgets are larger.

-Sub –Saharan Africa’s growth rate was negative between the years of 1975-1995.

The video overall touched on the importance of ideas. Lopez and Leighton (2013) said that philosphers, opinion makers, leaders or other types of influnecers around the world have one thing in common and that’s an interest in better ideas that improve human conditions that can become part of society’s institutions. These ideas can ultimately have incentives and outcomes which can impact everyone globally.

In the video, Ted mentioned a quote by Thomas Jefferson. “He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his candle at mine, receives light without darkening me.” I liked his interpretation of the quote which was, “One apple feeds one man but one idea can feed the world. Later towards the end of the video Ted suggested a different meaning of the Jefferson’s quote. Ted said that...
