PAST AND PRESENT
Do you think that folklores, genealogies and oral memories play a role in recording the events of the past?
* your answer should discuss two things-
1) what are the requirements to record the events from the past?
2) how far the folklores, genealogies and oral memories are important?
* you can divide you answer into three parts:
PART I: Introduction
PART II: Answer
PART III: Conclusion
PART I : INTRODUCTION
* what does one need to record the event? - SOURCES
* what do you mean by a source?
* Sources are needed for any research. It is very important for a researcher/scholar
* types of sources? - 1) Primary Sources 2) Secondary Sources
* Importance of both types of sources.
* what kind of sources were being used till the recent past? ( all those secondary and primary sources which were produced by a affluent/elite/smaller section of the society. they only speak about these section, not about the common people.)
* they talked about which class?
* this trend was limited in its vision.
PART II: ANSWER
* what was the shift made?
* influence of subaltern studies
* which class/classes were brought into focus now?
* why?
* what problem arise while writing about them?
* what sources now were helpful in writing about the marginalised communities/ sections?
* new sources-
* a) memory ( helpful in wring events like partition, riots etc.)
* b) folklores (helpful to write about battles, revolutions, local leader etc.)
* c) genealogies
* d) movies
* e) paintings..... etc.
* All these speak about which classes? ( women, dalits, common people.)
PART III: CONCLUSION
* what do you feel about this shift?
* was it necessary?
* should history writing be confined to limited section?
* is it important to write about women, dalits and the other marginalised groups?
* etc.
